Listen to the voices of Indigenous Australians - Australia Day 2018

The APS Apology to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People encourages psychologists to be mindful of events and dates that may have different significance for Indigenous Australians.

January 26th is fast approaching. The APS and AIPA would like to emphasise the sensitivity around this day, as many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples may view this day as one of mourning.

Over the past year you may have noticed the intensifying public debate over changing the date, especially on social media. Many Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians support changing the date to one that is more inclusive of all Australians.

Whatever you choose to do on January 26, the APS and AIPA support calls for respectful dialogue and encourage you pay attention to the safety and wellbeing of each other.

If you would like to learn more or discover alternate ways of recognising the date, the following links provide useful information.
